Trick or Treat!

Katie had an exhausting day today. A busy morning, in which we had to get ready for my Pre-K class party, which entailed me getting my costume on (I was a butterfly) and Katie getting her Halloween shirt and pants on. But then I did it. I dyed my hair blue, to go with the wings of course, and Katie just had to have blue hair. I am going to be washing my sheets tomorrow, as she just HAD to watch a show after and leaned back on my pillow. Then it was off to yet another Halloween party. This one had what seemed to be about 100 people. Katie had a great time, but the excitement wore her out, and made her rather cranky after.
But then we got the Jack-O-Lanterns ready and the second round of excitement began. She couldn't wait for her Daddy to get home and take her Trick-or-Treating.

She really admired the Jack-O-Lanterns we made. From left to right, they represent Katie, Daddy, Mommy, Aunt Carrie, and Uncle Jack. She couldn't wait to blow out the candles.

She was pretty excited about her Halloween costume too. She wore it proudly. We expected it to be cold, and snowing, but it was warm, at least in the upper 50's. So she got hot pretty fast. But everyone said how cute she looked, and I have to agree with everyone.
She didn't want any help Trick-or-Treating. She could go up to each door all by herself, knock, say Trick-or-Treat, Thank you and Happy Halloween. All alone. I can't believe this is the same child who last year had to be bribed with M&M's to go house to house. She couldn't wait to get all her candy. She saw a lot of her friends on the route, and wanted to talk and chat with each one. It was really fun.

She tripped over this at one of the houses. She asked me what it was and at first I said a leaf, but at closer inspection I saw it was a scorpion, and not a fake one. I have never even seen one outside a glassed in aquarium. Gives me the heebie jeebies just to look at it. I could only think of what would happen if a child picked it up, or if it crawled onto a child's Halloween costume, and so I did what any parent would do.
I squished it. Don't call PETA, I did it for the safety of children. I know, I know, scorpions are often misunderstood insects. It didn't even attempt at running away, so I am a big meanie. You should have heard the crunch though. It was gross.
Anyway, back to the holiday. Hey wait a minute, who is this. Katie is Trick-or-Treating at her own house. Do you think Aunt Carrie notices who it is?!?!!? This little sneak will trick anyone, even her great-aunt!

After exhausting herself, it was time to look at her loot. And what loot she got. She couldn't wait for me to check it so she could dig in.

M&M's, Smarties, and to the left a Tootsie Pop. She had to have it all. As she ate, she was constantly interrupted by the doorbell, at which time she had to get down from the table, and run to the door to hand out the candy.
Then she would run back to the table, forget what rotation of Smarties, M&M's, and Tootsie Pop she was on, not the she really cares, she just starts over. Shoves a Smartie in her mouth, lick the Tootsie Pop, and then an M&M. It was kinda sick to watch.
She is really getting into eating Lollipops! Don't you love the pig tails, I had to bribe, threaten, and cajole her into letting me put them in. Can you see the streaks of blue? I admit it isn't as bright as it was this morning, but you should see my pillow, it explains a lot.

Katie is finally asleep. We had another tantrum to get through first, but when your day consists mostly of sugar, no nap, and parties, you would have a hard time getting to sleep too!

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone!!! We had our Halloween party today at school, and it was a blast! After about 10 hours I finished Katie's costume, if you can't tell she's a penguin. She has been interested in penguins for awhile now, and when she saw the pattern she had decided then and there what she wanted to be for Halloween. Isn't she adorable!?!?!?!!
She was pretty excited to have a tail, and she checked it out often during the day.
Katie does a great impression of a penguin walk. She told me that penguins like to slide on their stomach, on the ice. I told her to not do that on the cement. We have to keep the costume whole, and clean for Trick or Treating. She found an alternative...

Ms. Becca, her teacher, put out scooters for racing, and Katie showed everyone how a penguin slides on its belly. She is retaining so much information. We have to be careful about what we say around her. She will remember for weeks, and repeat it in very uncomfortable situations!!

I dressed up as a Cowgirl. My costume wasn't complete without the hat, but the hat was too big, so I didn't wear it much. As it was I was asked all day who I was supposed to be for Halloween. Oh well.

The party was lots of fun. Besides the scooter races, there was bean bag tosses, spider ring toss, and candy necklace making.
Look at this face. One minute Katie was having a great time at a party with her friends, and the next minute her friends were all leaving. She was sad. She wanted to party all night long.

Later that day, though, she was better. She went to Jenny's house, made cupcakes, with a vibrant orange and black frosting, and got to take one home. Forgotten was the sad party's over penguin, and hello was my sugar addict daughter, happy to have a fix. A messy, I don't know if it will come out, but don't care, because she's happy, daughter.
Who could ask for more?

Cinderella

Cinderella play is in full swing in the Copsey family. Katie watched the movie at her babysitters, and, much to her Daddy's dismay, she is obsessed with princes and princesses who fall in love and get married. She is Cinderella of course, and I am her handsome prince. I am told I have to dance with her at the ball, compliment her on her gown, and ask her to marry me. I mean who wouldn't compliment her on this?!?! She screams fashion from.....
her blue ball gown, pink cape, and wedding veil....
...to her purple Cinderella shoes. Look at that pedicure. Her feet look better than mine.

This is Dolly. She was a gift from Grammie and Katie loves her. I think she especially loves that Dolly can dress up too. I am also the Prince who dances with Dolly. Dolly is wearing a purple ensemble. Katie took this picture so you all could see how beautiful she is as well. Katie is loving Dolly's pink lipstick, and when she noticed it she informed me that she too needed lip stick to look beautiful for the prince.
So here is Mommy all excited to finally have Katie getting into dress up, and becoming a girly girl when...
Yikes, the crazy girl comes back out. Gone is the blue frilly dress, veil, fancy shoes, and princess facade. In comes the girl who would wear a swim cap all day. But who can blame her....
She gets it from her Dad.
A little of Mom too, although I wouldn't post myself in a swim cap, unless I was, ahem, swimming.

That's OK though. Girly girl, or tomboy, I'll take her any way I can get her!

Snow Days

See what Katie sees? She built a snowman there the day before, but it had melted and covered in new snow. The snow is still here, and it comes and goes. Each morning we get snow until about 9am, after which it is fun to play in and then it begins melting. We are taking advantage and going out in the mornings to play. This is Katie's new snow outfit. She isn't a big fan of it, but wears it because we make her. We are soooo mean, trying to keep her warm and dry. I tell you, who do we think we are?
Daddy and Katie built a new snowman outside the front door. This one is bigger and should last a bit longer.
Katie didn't like how small my snow man was, she wanted a BIG snowman! I told her "Look kid I'm new at this snow stuff," and I threw a snowball at her.
Katie is having a lot of fun in the snow. We can't wait to get some sleds!!!

October 10th and Guess What!?!?!

What a goof!!!
It SNOWED!!!! Katie didn't really know what to think, She liked it, but it was kinda cold. But Dori, the golden retriever loved this stuff. We threw snow balls to her. When we came inside Dori was whining to get back out. What a dog she is!!! Do you see how she is dressed? We woke up saw the snow and got into a jacket, hat and....rain boots. I hope her snow gear comes today. She was a little chilly.
Yup here I am, in my big baggy sweats, and yucky sweatshirt. Just pretend I am in cute yoga pants, my hair is washed and done, and I look gorgeous. Also pretend I am skinny and model like. In reality though, I slept on the couch last night, Rick has the stomach flu, and Katie woke me up at 6am, and since we sleep in the basement, I didn't even look out the dark window I just brought her to the couch for more sleep. Then she woke me up at a much more manageable time of 7:30, and when I looked out the basement windows I saw..... SNOW!!! For new snow citizen I couldn't wait, as you can see. This will melt though and we will get warm weather again for awhile. But for now Katie and I are going to play all we can!
We got about 3 inches last night and the snow just keeps falling. We are going to get dressed and go build a snowman later. The snow will melt soon though so I better get a move on!

Great Grams and Great Grandpa

Great Grams and Great Grandpa came out for a visit last weekend. It was a blast. Katie was pretty sick and she proceeded to get Rick, and Aunt Carrie sick with the stomach flu. But she had fun anyway. We just stayed around the house, watching too much football, talking, eating, gossiping, you know the normal stuff. It was raining, so going out wouldn't have been much fun. Katie spent much of the weekend next to the toilet anyway. Question; how is it that a child can sit next to the toilet and not throw up, but pick them up when they are done, and they throw up all over you?
Since it was raining, and we weren't going for day trips, I put Grams to work. Katie is going to be a penguin for Halloween, and I decided that I could make the costume from scratch. Well, I looked at the instructions, and the sewing lessons weren't coming back to me as quickly as I would have liked. Grams offered to help, and I put her to work. We got the entire costume cut out, and part of it sewed. The easy parts of course, but then they left. Now the hard part begins, Aunt Carrie and I have to do the rest.
Grams: I will pay you to fly out here, finish the costume. All you have to do is promise to not tell anyone you were here, and let me take all the credit. OK?
We'll finish it and you'll all see it later.
Thanks for the visit Great Grams, and Great Grandpa, I hope you didn't get the stomach flu!
